Speed Dating is the answer:

They hold Speed Dater events in upmarket bars. This makes for a great
atmosphere and gives you the opportunity to stay afterwards and carry
on talking to the people you've just met.
They close off an area of the bar, use a function room or sometimes take
over the whole venue exclusively for Speed Daters.
Speed Dating start the speed dating early on - that's
the ice breaker! When you arrive, you're given a scorecard, a pen and
a badge. After each date you mark on the scorecard whether or not you
would like to see them again. So, if you tick eight people and four of
them tick you, you will receive four matches. They email all Speed Daters
within 48 hours of the event whether they have matches or not.

Questions:
What sort of people go speed dating?
Most speed daters are professionals who want to meet more people. They're
generally normal, attractive people who just aren't meeting people through
their work or immediate circle of friends.
A lot of the women's tickets are sold out. Can you squeeze a couple
more in?
We have to manage numbers carefully to ensure equal numbers of men and
women at our events. However we are often able to take additional bookings
that do not effect the balance of numbers - eg two men and two women.

How many dates will I get at a Speed Dater event?
You will normally get between twenty and thirty dates depending on the
size of the venue. In our experience thirty dates is a sensible maximum
as Speed Dating is quite tiring.
Why don't you do more events for people in their mid-thirties to forties?
We are limited by the number of men over 35 who are currently interested
in coming Speed Dating. We are now targeting more of our marketing efforts
at attracting more men.
I'm just outside the age range specified for an event. Can I still
attend?
Yes, you can. The age ranges specified are guidelines. However if you
are, or appear to be, well outside the age range you are unlikely to get
matches.
Is three minutes per date long enough?
Please believe us, three minutes can seem like a very long time with someone
you don't like. In our experience three minutes is about the right amount
of time to decide whether you're prepared to invest a couple of hours
in a follow-up date.
Why do I need to book in advance?
We need to ensure a balance of men and women. We also need to ensure that
enough people will be attending each event.
Are there any specific requirements to sign up?
You just need to be single, have an email address and be over 18 years
old.
Can I go to more that one Speed Dating event?
You can go to as many as you like. Most people at each event will be new
to speed dating so it will give you more chances to meet the right person.
How do I find out the location of Speed Dater events?
Just go to the drop-down menu on our home page, choose the location that's
nearest where you live or work and click "Go". The date for
the next event will then appear on-screen.
Do many people come on their own?
Approximately 30 percent of women and 60 percent of men come Speed Dating
on their own.
Can I bring a friend?
You are very welcome to bring friends and many speed daters do.
When will I be charged?
We charge your credit card when you book a speed dating event.
Can I cancel?
They are not normally able to offer refunds but will move you to a different
Speed Dater event provided you contact us at least three working days
before the event. If you give us less than three days notice we will still
do our best to move you to another event. If we are able to move you to
an alternative event, you will be charged an additional £5 handling
fee.
How long does a Speed Dater event last?
Including breaks the event may last up to three hours depending on the
number of participants. Many Speed Daters stay for a few drinks after
the event too.
How will I know if I have any matches?
We will inform you by email within 48 hours of the event whether you have
matches or not. If you have matches you will receive the first names and
email addresses of everyone you ticked who also ticked you.
What happens when I arrive at the event?
When you arrive you will be given a scorecard, a nametag and a pen, then
invited to have a drink at the bar. Once everyone has arrived the Speed
Dater compere will explain how speed dating works and answer any questions.
Then the dating begins. Usually women will stay seated while men will
rotate every three minutes when the bell rings. After each date participants
mark on a scorecard whether they would like to see that person again.
At the end of the evening we collect in the top-sheets of all scorecards.
How old are the other speed daters?
Currently most of our events are for the 25-40 age range. We do run some
events for older age groups. Age ranges also vary for particular events.
Generally we limit the age range for any one event to a maximum of 10-12
years.
How should I dress for Speed Dating?
Wear what you feel comfortable in. Many people will be coming straight
from work so suits are fine. But don't forget that in Speed Dating first
impressions count.
